Direct Relief International is now preparing
its first shipment of aid for victims of the floods in Mozambique. A team
of four Portuguese-speaking physicians has been flown into Mozambique by
long-time Direct Relief partner agency American Jewish World Service, and
Direct Relief will be providing them with pharmaceuticals and other medical
supplies.
Because of the emergency nature of the
situation, Direct Relief will be purchasing most of the medications in
Europe and flying them directly into Mozambique. Direct Relief is now in
urgent need of donations to help cover the purchase and air freight costs
of these medical supplies for Mozambique. From Direct Relief=D5s past experience
with flood disasters in Venezuela, India, Mexico and elsewhere, it is expected
that antibiotics to treat or prevent diseases such as cholera, dysentery
and malaria are likely to be among the most-needed items.
