Assessment missions 2 DFID humanitarian specialists were deployed to Mozambique during the initial stages of the disaster. In collaboration with already present DFID staff, they conducted rapid assessments and liaised with the Mozambique authorities and humanitarian organisations in the field over priority needs. They returned to the UK on 22 February. A DFID humanitarian specialist was redeployed to Mozambique on 28 February.
UNICEF Contribution to the consolidated appeal for Mozambique covering access to sanitation facilities, care and re-settlement of displaced people, resumption of school activities and provision of health services and epidemiological surveillance .

DFID SA have provided £26,000 for BHC Gaborone to support UNICEF for the provision of blankets to be distributed to the flood affected and a further £27,000 directly to UNICEF to support their water and sanitation activities.



International Federation of the Red Cross A consignment of over 400 tents was flown from our own stockpile to Maputo, for distribution by the Red Cross.

Contribution to the consolidated appeal for Mozambique and Botswana towards the provision of emergency potable water, shelter and rehabilitation of housing and essential non-food items.

WFP Support for their helicopter relief and boat operations

Direct provision of helicopters to WFP

Secondment of two logisticians into WFP to assist with tasking and coordination of flights




World Vision Contribution to provide basic survival items in the first instance and then subsequently items to help people repair their flood damaged homes
Oxfam Support to water and sanitation needs for communities in the Limpopo and Save Valley
Actionaid For basic survival items, shelter, water & sanitation, health and education for flood affected communities in Manhica and Marracuene Districts.
Save the Children Fund For immediate relief items and health support
ERT 76 inflatable craft + 57 Ob motors (crew from IRC and RNLI)

39 x 20 and 10 man self inflating life rafts

DFID Operational and coordination team: 3 person + 2 Emergency Response Vehicles (and comms equipment)

Deployment from the UK

Support to the United Nations Disaster Assessment and Co-ordination Team
Deployment of 2 x 28 seater helicopters chartered from the Ukraine, to support humanitarian operations in Mozambique. including crew and support package.

Deployment of 4 Puma helicopters from Devon with crew. To be transported by specially chartered ANTONOV 124 heavy lift and RAF TriStar. (2 March) To support rescue operation.
