Attachments

Tackling the heavy rains that poured down in the Northern parts of Maputo, Mozambique from 7-15 February 2023, Buddhist Tzu Chi Foundation (BTCF) assessed the situation and has already completed the first part of immediate relief distribution, providing a food package, eco-blanket and a bottle of water purification liquid equating to a total of 39 kilograms on 24-28 February to affected areas of Manhica, Boane, Changalane and Mahubo Maputo City. From 7-21 March a second distribution will take place, those affected will receive another set of relief items but this time will include an extra set of agricultural kits amounting to 3 kilograms including vegetable seeds and shovels in hopes that this may restart their livelihood so that they may grow their own vegetables to enjoy or sell. Both parts of the distribution will benefit 21,230 families and 106,150 individuals.

Initial relief aid was done in conjunction with the National Disasters Management Institute (INGD). Before distribution started, through a skit, the volunteers explained to those who came to receive the relief items, where the relief aid came from and how BTCF started, even though the beneficiaries were affected badly they even gave back through the small change that they have on them. Apart from distribution on-site, volunteers also visited disaster shelters to ensure that those seeking shelter have all the necessities and tried to find out how they could help them as well.

During the devastating times, many kind-hearted sponsors came forward and donated 500 kilograms of relief items, including canned food, hygiene kits and clothes, other individuals provided funds totaling to 99,000 Mozambican meticais (USD 1551).
