MAPUTO, Mozambique (PANA) - Some
67 rescue personnel from the Austrian Forces Aid Unit are expected in Maputo
Friday to bolster relief operations now underway in central and southern
Mozambique following massive flooding caused by Cyclone Eline.
The Swiss Agency for Development and
Co-operation said the personnel will carry with them 87 tonnes of sophisticated
material.
It added that Austria, Germany and Switzerland have established a joint venture to improve the efficiency of the emergency operations.
The venture is to add additional relief operations aimed at supplying water through the various water treatment systems in the Chibuto district of Mozambique's southern province of Gaza.
This mission, being the fruit of consultations with the Mozambican government, is in line with the country's long-term programme to increase clean water supplies.
