Dear Colleagues,

ACT member Christian Council of Mozambique is appealing for assistance to provide relief to vulnerable communities in Mozambique affected by the current drought. Because of the very limited water availability, poor second season crop production, resource constraints for food aid, high food prices and exhausted coping strategies, food security conditions have deteriorated in much of southern and central Mozambique and in parts of northern Mozambique.

There are approximately 801,000 people in need of food assistance through March 2006. To prevent further deterioration of food security and an increased demand for costly interventions, additional resources must urgently be mobilised. CCM are joining other ACT Mozambique members with this response to assist communities faced this drought. With a high probability of a good start to the rainy season, CCM is planning to provide support for the affected communities to assist household recovery from the last poor season. This appeal will cover the regions of Maputo and Inhambane provinces and will be implemented for a period of six months ending 30 June 2006.

For the sake of brevity this revision includes the Christian Council of Mozambique proposal only. For Lutheran World Federation and Ecumenical Committee for Social Development (CEDES) projects please refer to the original appeal issued 4 October 2005.

Project Completion Date:

CEDES - 31 May 2006
LWF - 31 May 2006
