Morocco is both a transit and a host country for people seeking asylum, with 19,133 refugees and asylum seekers registered with UNHCR from over 50 countries. UNHCR works to ensure access to asylum and protection for refugees and asylum seekers in Morocco, while working closely with Moroccan authorities under the framework of the National Strategy for Immigration and Asylum (SNIA). And in a context of national emergency since 8 September 2023, UNHCR and partners are actively working to ensure a comprehensive response to meet the growing protection needs of asylum seekers and refugees.
