1. LATEST REPORT INDICATES OVER 230 DEATHS, INCLUDING 166 IN OURIKA REGION, 35 KM SOUTH OF MARRAKESH. 500 ARE REPORTED STILL MISSING. FLOODS DAMAGED INFRASTRUCTURE, SUCH AS ELECTRICITY POLES, ROADS, AT LEAST ONE BRIDGE, HOUSES, AND SHOPS. MORE THAN 200 VEHICLES AND 75 BUSES WERE TAKEN BY FLOOD WATER.

2. EMERGENCY OPERATIONS HAVE BEEN LAUNCHED BY MILITARY, 'GENDARMES', AND LOCAL AUTHORITIES. INTERIOR MINISTER VISITED AFFECTED REGION ON 18 AUGUST.

3. IFRC HAS ALLOCATED CHF 50,000 (USD 43,860) FROM ITS DISASTER RELIEF EMERGENCY FUND TO ASSIST RELIEF EFFORTS OF MOROCCAN RED CRESCENT.

4. HAVING DISCUSSED SITUATION WITH MOROCCAN GOVT, DHA/UNDP RESIDENT REPRESENTATIVE IN RABAT INFORMS THAT GOVT DOES NOT APPEAL FOR INTERNATIONAL ASSISTANCE, AS SITUATION IS UNDER CONTROL. GOVT, HOWEVER, WISHES TO CONVEY ITS APPRECIATION FOR DHA AND OTHER DONOR GOVTS FOR THEIR IMMEDIATE AND GENEROUS OFFER OF ASSISTANCE.

5. THIS IS THE LAST REPORT FOR THIS EMERGENCY, UNLESS THERE ARE UNFORSEEN DEVELOPMENTS.
