1. FLASH FLOODS KILLED MORE THAN 100 PEOPLE AND CAUSED DAMAGE TO HOMES AND INFRASTRUCTURE IN THE SOUTHWEST OF MOROCCO, FOLLOWING TORRENTIAL RAINS WHICH HIT THE ATLAS MOUNTAIN RANGE ON THURSDAY 17 AUGUST. INFORMATION ON CASUALTIES AND DAMAGE IS STILL PRELIMINARY AS GOVERNMENT ASSESSES, AND RESPONDS, TO THE EMERGENCY. SOME PEOPLE ARE FEARED MISSING IN AREAS TO WHICH ACCESS HAS BEEN CUT BY THE FLOODS. MEDIA REPORTS WORST HIT AREA TO BE SITUATED JUST SOUTH MARRAKESH.

2. DHA, IN CLOSE CONTACT WITH THE UNITED NATIONS RESIDENT COORDINATOR IN RABAT, IS MONITORING THE SITUATION AS MORE INFORMATION BECOMES AVAILABLE.

3. NO REQUEST FOR INTERNATIONAL ASSISTANCE HAS BEEN RECEIVED BY DHA AS AT 20 AUGUST 1995.
