Very heavy rainfall has been affecting central-western Morocco, in particular the Safi province, Marrakesh-Safi region over the past 72 hours, causing floods and flash floods that have resulted in casualties and damage.

The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) reports, as of 16 December, 37 fatalities, 32 injured people, around 150 displaced people and a total of approximately 300 affected people across the area of the coastal city of Safi. Significant damage to infrastructure was also reported by the same source.

Over the next 72 hours, moderate rainfall with locally heavy rainfall is forecast over central and northern Morocco.
