Description

According to NEMA, between 3-5 November, the air temperature dropped by -10-15 degrees, and 0.0-8.0 mm of snow fell in the East, West, North, South, and Central parts of the country including Gobi-Altai, Khovd, Uvs, Zavkhan, Arkhangai, Uvurkhangai, Tuv, Bulgan, Selenge, Khentii, Dornod, Sukhbaatar, Dundgobi, and Dornogobi provinces. Wind speed reached 16-22 m/s causing a strong snowstorm that lasted about 5-15 hours. Early warnings were issued 2nd of November by NEMA. Due to the hazardous snow storm, 37 out of 46 people who went missing while driving or herding have been rescued, 42 vehicles and 113 individuals have been evacuated to a safe place by the NEMA search and rescue team in 10 locations of 8 provinces including Khovd, Uvs, Zavkhan, Arkhangai, Tuv, Uvurkhangai, Selenge, and Dornod provinces. 8 casualties including 1 child have been reported in Tuv and Uvurkhangai provinces. According to NAMEM, another snowstorm is expected to occur between the 6 and 7th of this month in the West, North, and Central part of the country and the second early warning have been issued by NEMA on the 6th.

Summary

MRCS is disseminating early warning messages through its social media, website, and local volunteers and monitoring the situation. Chingeltei District red cross branch has mobilized 10 volunteers on the 5th to clean the snow in the street and 14 community members have been voluntarily engaged in the street snow cleaning activity.
