Federated States of Micronesia looking to improve disaster response

With the Federated States of Micronesia still reeling from the effect of three typhoons that swept through the region in April and May, disaster authorities are looking at the lessons that can be learned.

For many communities, just surviving Maysak, Noul and Dolphin was a significant achievement.

But to improve responses in the future, the four FSM states joined with the Secretariat of the Pacific Community (SPC) and the European Union to review the emergency.

Gerald M Zackios, who heads the SPC's North Pacific Regional office, says while recovery efforts have been difficult, progress is being made.
