In the first three months of 2025, 183 migrants lost their lives while traveling from South America to Mexico’s northern border—an average of more than one death per day. The leading causes were mixed or unknown factors (78 deaths), drowning (59), and extreme environmental conditions (17), followed by traffic accidents, violence, and lack of medical care.
