Severe Weather

On 17 October 2018, the Government of Guatemala (AGN) reported recent heavy rain affected the following departments: Baja Verapaz, Alta Verapaz, Petén, Retalhuleu, and San Marcos due to tropical storm Vicente. The storm affected 8,829 people and 453 homes and caused 494 people to be injured. Currently, there are 237 people in shelters throughout Alta Verapaz and Baja Verapaz. On 22 October 2018, the Secretary of Public Security of Oaxaca (SSPO), Mexico reported heavy rain and floods due to tropical storm Vicente affected several towns of the State of Oaxaca. Media reported that 12 fatalities occurred due to landslides. Elsewhere, in the State of Veracruz, heavy rain and floods affected 150,320 people, 34,591 homes, and 400 communities. On 22 October 2018, the Peru National Emergency Operations Center (COEN) reported heavy winds and rain occurred on Thursday, 18 October in Pauriali, Mazamari District, Satipo Province, Junin Department. On 23 October 2018, media reported recent heavy rain and floods in Lara State, Venezuela affected at least 146 families in the following towns Lara-Zulia, El Tamarindo, Las Veras, and La Fortaleza.
