A new tropical cyclone named BARBARA formed over the Eastern North Pacific Ocean on 9 June very early in the morning (UTC) and started moving northwestward over the Ocean as a tropical storm, strengthening. On 9 June at 3.00 UTC, its centre was located offshore approximately 375 km south-west of the Zihuatanejo city (Guerrero state, southern Mexico), with maximum sustained winds of 102 km/h.
BARBARA is forecast to continue moving northwestward over the Ocean, along the coast of southern and western Mexico, and to pass approximately 290 km south of the southernmost area of the Baja California Sur state on 11 June as a tropical storm.
Over the next 72 hours, rainfall and strong winds are forecast over coastal areas of southern and western Mexico.
