MEXICO CITY (June 25) XINHUA - At least 29 earthquakes were registered in the past seven days in Mexico, the National Seismological Service (SSN) said Friday in its weekly report.
The most intense quake measured 5.8 on the Richter scale with its epicenter on the Pacific Ocean coast, causing no casualties or damage.
The most recent seism of the series occurred early Friday morning with a magnitude of 4.7 degrees on the Richter scale.
This quake happened at 04:49 local time (0949 GMT) in the Socunusco region in Chiapas state with its epicenter located in the Pacific Ocean, across from the coast of Retalhuleu, Guatemala.
Also Friday, the coasts of the southern Mexican state of Guerrero were shaken by another earth movement at 00:50 local time (0550 GMT) with an intensity of 4.1 degrees on the Richter scale.
The SSN said that there were seven quakes on Tuesday. Some minor earthquakes measured 3.7 degrees while the strongest one measured 4.7 degrees on the Richter scale, with their epicenters in the states of Michoacan, Jalisco and Guerrero, as well as in the Gulf of Tehauantepec, Oaxaca.
The quake series started on June 19 when two earthquakes with magnitudes of 4.5 and 4.0 degrees occurred on the Guatemala and Chiapas coasts respectively, said the SSN.
