Mexico - Hurricane Ignacio
25 August 2003
This message is not an official hurricane warning or alert for any country.
1. The National Weather Center in Miami reports that at 15:00 GMT today, the center of Hurricane Ignacio was located near latitude 24.3 north, longitude 110.0 west or about 20 miles / 35 km northeast of La Paz, Mexico. Maximum sustained winds are near 85 mph / 140 km/h with higher gusts, making Ignacio a 'category-one' hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson scale.
2. At 15:00 GMT, the following warnings/watches were in effect:
3. A Hurricane Warning for the southern Baja California peninsula from south of San Evaristo on the east coast and south of Bahia Magdalena on the west coast.
4. A Tropical Storm Warning for southern Baja California peninsula from Loreto to San Evaristo and from Puerto San Andresito to Bahia Magdalena. A Tropical Storm Warning is also in effect for the coast of mainland Mexico from Altata to Topolobampo.
5. A Tropical Storm Watch for the coast of mainland Mexico north of Topolobampo to Huatabampito.
