Mexico - Floods (Floodlist, CONAGUA, media) (ECHO Daily Flash of 09 September 2021)

  • Heavy rain has been affecting central Mexico (in particular Hidalgo State and the neighbouring Mexico State) over the past 48 hours, causing rivers overflow (particularly Tula and Rosas Rivers in Hidalgo), floods and flash floods that have resulted in casualties and damage.
  • In Hidalgo, media report, as of 8 September, 17 fatalities and 41 evacuated people in Tula City (southern Hidalgo, approximately 70 km north of Mexico City), due to the flood that affected the city hospital. In addition, around 1,000 evacuated people and several damaged buildings were reported across the Tula City area.
  • In Mexico State, media report two fatalities in Ecatepec de Morelos Town (20 km north of Mexico City) due to flash floods.
  • Over the next 24 hours, more heavy rain is forecast over north-western, central and southern Mexico, including over parts of already affected States.
