- 93K people affected by armed clashes and violence in Catatumbo, Colombia
MEXICO: PACIFIC HURRICANE SEASON
Cyclonic activity continues to intensify along Mexico’s Pacific coast, with five systems forming since 5 June. Hurricanes Barbara and Cosme both reached hurricane strength, prompting alerts from the National Civil Protection System in several coastal states, though neither made landfall or caused major damage. Tropical Depression Four-E strengthened to Tropical Storm Dalila on 13 June, with NOAA forecasting its path to run parallel to the southwestern Mexican coastline without direct landfall. However, the anticipation of heavy local rains have already triggered warnings from Guerrero to Colima. Another low-pressure system is forming off the Central American coast, with a 30 per cent chance of cyclonic development in the coming week. With favourable conditions persisting, authorities and humanitarian partners continue to closely monitor the Eastern Pacific season’s rapid escalation.
COLOMBIA: VIOLENCE & INSECURITY
Ongoing armed violence, new displacements, and repeated drones attacks continue to fuel the humanitarian crisis in Colombia’s northeastern region of Catatumbo. In Ocaña, recent fighting displaced 900 people, while attacks on public forces have been reported in Villa del Rosario, La Esperanza, and Herrán - municipalities previously unaffected by non-state armed group (NSAG) disputes. A new NSAG has entered Catatumbo, raising serious concerns and threatening to further deteriorate conditions in the region. Over the past two months, eight drone attacks were reported, primarily during clashes between NSAG, heightening risks for civilians and infrastructure protected under international humanitarian law. The crisis has now affected 93,151 people through forced displacement, confinement and mobility restrictions. The Central Emergency Relief Fund has allocated funding to support interventions in education, food assistance and nutrition, protection, shelter, and WASH.
HAITI: VIOLENCE & DISPLACEMENT
Haiti’s displacement crisis has reached a record high, with nearly 1.3 million people now internally displaced - 11 per cent of the country’s population and a 24 per cent increase since December 2024. Violence has intensified in Port-au-Prince and Petite Rivière de l’Artibonite, and spread into the Centre department, particularly the municipalities of Mirebalais and Saut-d’Eau. Between January and May 2025, at least 2,680 people were killed and almost 1,000 injured across the country. The Centre, which previously hosted no displacement sites, now hosts over 147,000 IDPs across 85 newly formed sites. Most IDPs (77 per cent) are sheltering in provinces, mostly with host families, placing immense strain on already overstretched rural communities. Food, livelihoods, health care, WASH and shelter remain the most urgent needs, particularly in overcrowded or informal settings. Humanitarian partners are renewing calls for the end of violence, the protection of citizens and an urgent scale-up of support from the international community.
ECUADOR: RAINY SEASON
As of 10 June, heavy rains in Ecuador have affected over 204,000 people - an increase of more than 8,000 since previously reported on 21 May - and displaced nearly 53,800. Authorities now report 50 deaths. Landslides, floods and other rain-related events have affected 213 cantons across all 24 provinces, with Manabí, Los Ríos, Guayas, El Oro and Esmeraldas the hardest hit. The government has declared red alerts in six coastal provinces and extended the rainy season emergency to cover 13 provinces, enabling additional resource mobilization. The rains have damaged over 69,000 homes and more than 150 km of roads. Authorities have activated 172 emergency committees, while humanitarian partners continue to provide support, including food and cash assistance, in coordination with local authorities.
