Highlights:

  • 3,076 children aged 6-59 months screened out of a total project forecast of 3,780 (81%).
  • 1,480 zero-dose children were identified and received catch-up vaccination in the 20 villages/sites.
  • 13 drinking water networks have been rehabilitated, providing water to over 18,000 people, and 70 latrines and shower blocks out of 142 have been built.
  • 950 refugees and host community children are enrolled and supported with school reintegration activities.
  • 415 children, including 231 girls with special needs, were identified, and assisted.
  • Still huge unmet needs and strong pressure from the local authorities for actions covering the needs of the host populations. The rainy season is approaching, with the risk of flooding (hygiene kits).

Humanitarian Update

  • Security situation is calm - a joint operation is established by both side (Mauritania/Mali) to prevent frequent incidents along their borders.
  • The influx of refugees continues, with a drop in June 2024. As of May 30, around 210,000 Malian refugees in the Hod Chargui region, 104,000 in the Mberra camp and 106,000 in the host villages, including 86,000 new arrivals in 2024. The projection is 240,000 including 112,000 in the host villages by the end of 2024.
  • Still huge unmet needs and strong pressure from local authorities for more actions covering the needs of the host populations.
  • The rainy season has begun, with the risk of flooding, which could increase needs at several refugee sites.
