Secretary-General Applauds Mauritania’s People for Peaceful Conduct of Elections
The following statement was issued today by the Spokesman for UN Secretary-General António Guterres:
The Secretary-General commends the people of Mauritania for the peaceful conduct of parliamentary, regional and municipal elections in the country on 1 September, which saw broad participation of political parties.
He encourages all parties to continue to act in a peaceful manner during and after the announcement of the results. He further calls on political leaders and electoral contestants to resolve disputes through dialogue and in accordance with the law.
