Overview
The 2025 Refugee Response and Resilience Plan in Mauritania (3RP Mauritania) aims to address the needs of Malian refugees and host communities in the Hodh Chargui. Ongoing insecurity in Mali has led to a continued influx of refugees to Mauritania, with approximately 318,000 refugees projected to be settled in the border region of Hodh Chargui by end-2025. This situation is placing immense pressure on resources and services in the region, one of the most affected in the country.
Pressure on essential services has increased along with growing protection concerns. Opportunities for accessing livelihoods remain limited and the influx of people has also heightened risks of inter-community tension, impacting social cohesion.
Host communities who are the first to welcome and support refugees arriving in Mauritania, face challenges such as pressure on natural resources and difficulties in receiving basic services. The plan adopts an integrated approach to strengthen community resilience while addressing urgent humanitarian needs. It emphasizes the inclusion of refugees in national systems and strengthened local capacities.
