UNICEF Mali Humanitarian Situation Report No. 4 (End of Year), January - December 2025

Highlights

  • In 2025, Mali’s humanitarian situation remained dire due to a volatile security context and the impacts of climate shocks amid evolving political dynamics. The security landscape was marked by attacks by armed groups on civilians, security forces, economic infrastructure, and key supply routes, triggering fuel shortages—particularly in Bamako—restricting access and expanding insecurity southward. These conditions also caused further displacement, with Mali hosting 415,000 internally displaced people1. In Koro, Bandiagara region, 51,000 new Burkinabè refugees2 were recorded.
  • Compounding these challenges, the funding environment remained extremely constrained. The HAC Appeal was only 27 per cent funded, down from 33 per cent in 2024, reflecting continued pressure on humanitarian funding amid global competition and reduced visibility of the Sahel crisis.
  • Despite these constraints, UNICEF provided life-saving assistance, reaching 189,693 children with severe wasting treatment, 76,774 children and adolescents with psychosocial support, and over 208,780 people with safe water.
