In the continuous effort to improve preparedness related to disasters and to strengthen the capacity of citizens and governments to respond effectively, the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs for West and Central Africa (OCHA ROWCA) and the National Civil Protection Directorate of Mali are organizing the 12th Regional Consultation of the Regional Committee for Disaster Management in West Africa (GECEAO). The Consultation will be held in Bamako, Mali from 25 to 27 September 2018.
1. This 12th regional consultation will focus on the following key themes:
- Presentation of the ECOWAS Operational Humanitarian Action Plan (2018-2022);
- Regional overview of climate previsions and lessons learned (2018) and humanitarian partners perspectives on disseminated early warning messages (PRESASS 2018 follow-up actions);
- Follow-up action of the World Humanitarian Summit and the implementation of actions related to the "new way of working";
- Rapid Assessment Tool and methodology for NDMA’s;
- Implementation of the ECOWAS emergency response roster;
- Regional Civil-military coordination (regional strategies);
- Presentation of the new GECEAO website;
- Debriefing on the Global Preparedness Partnership process.
Technical experts will exchange with participants and share various tools available for emergency preparedness, response and coordination. Presentations and specific training sessions will be delivered during this consultation.
