MOMENTUM PRIVATE HEALTHCARE DELIVERY is part of a suite of innovative awards funded by USAID to holistically improve maternal, newborn, and child health services, voluntary family planning, and reproductive health care (MNCH/FP/RH) in partner countries around the world. Presently, MOMENTUM Private Healthcare Delivery in Mali works to enhance private sector engagement in the provision of quality information, products, and services across the domains of MNCH/FP/RH and nutrition. MOMENTUM supported WASH and COVID-19 interventions earlier in the project.

Spotlight on Private Sector Engagement: MOMENTUM directly engages private healthcare facilities in six regions to improve quality of service delivery and overall functioning of the clinics by collaborating with the Private Sector Alliance (ASP). One example of these efforts has been the institutionalization of the electronic patient medical records at private sites. To date, 50 health providers have been trained, enabling them to generate reports, analyze client data in real time, and use the analysis to support client flow and stock management. The scale up, use and maintenance of this system is ongoing. MOMENTUM’s national partner, JIGI, plays an important role ensuring that high-quality, socially marketed products for FP and health products reach populations via the private healthcare sector.

Spotlight on Localization: MOMENTUM’s work with local partners JIGI, ASP, the Midwives of Mali (ASFM), and the Malian Network of Youth Ambassadors for Family Planning (RJA). The project works to strengthen the institutional capacity of the local partners, in alignment with their self-identified priorities, and supports them to become more autonomous and financially able to receive future funds directly.

Spotlight on Person-Centered Care: After conducting health facility assessments, the project segmented 343 health facilities based on their capacity to provide quality service delivery. MOMENTUM uses a range of activities to support these sites to deliver Person Centered Care principles as part of quality initiatives, including training, mentoring, supervision, and competency evaluation.
