According to media reports released on 24 April, tens of bodies were found on 22 April around the military camp of Kwala, in the region of Koulikoro, southwest Mali. This area is the scenario of continuous clashes between non-state armed groups and the Malian Armed Forces, and civilians are affected by these hostilities.
Protection incidents continue to be on the rise and civilians are increasingly the target of attacks by all parties to the conflict. During 2025, over 6,500 human rights violations have been reported in northern and central Mali only.
The Humanitarian Response Plan 2025 indicates that 3.1 million people are in need of protection assistance, almost doubling the number of those in need in that sector in 2024. While the protection situation deteriorates in Mali, the sector is so far funded at 10.6% under the 2025 Humanitarian Response Plan.
