On 2 December, at least six people have been killed in an attack in the western part of the region of Tombouctou.
Attacks committed by all parties to the conflict are increasing across Mali, particularly in central and northern regions, increasingly impacting civilians. Serious violations of International Humanitarian Law (IHL) and human rights continue to be reported. According to the Protection Cluster, 30 546 human rights violations have been reported up to end November in 2024, which means an increase of 175% between 2023 and 2024.
This has led to a dire humanitarian situation with over 1.6 million people in need of protection assistance. Despite the growing needs on this matter, only a 39.5% of the requested funding for the protection sector has been secured under the 2024 Humanitarian Response Plan.
