In Koro, in Bandiagara region, UNHCR is coordinating alongside Malian authorities a multisectoral emergency response to meet the urgent needs of the refugees and reduce the pressure on generous host communities and fragile public services. From April to September 2025, the region witnessed massive refugee influx from Burkina Faso. These people fled insecurity in their villages in border areas. Some 51,000 individuals arrived between April and September 2025. This influx has nearly doubled the number of Burkinabe refugees in Koro. UNHCR continues to mobilise relevant resources to appropriately address the gaps in protection and assistance services.
