Context
From April to September 2025, UNHCR’s Sub-Office in Mopti recorded a sharp rise in refugee arrivals from Burkina Faso, as around 51,000 people fled escalating violence in border villages and entered Koro cercle, nearly doubling the Burkinabè refugee population. In support of national authorities (CNCR), UNHCR conducted a large-scale biometric registration, generating accurate, up-to-date data that enabled a timely and coordinated multisectoral emergency response. While this response addressed urgent protection and assistance needs, the scale of the influx underscores the need for continued support to bolster the resilience and self-reliance of refugees, host communities, and fragile public services, and to advance durable solutions, including safe and voluntary repatriation.
