Anticipatory Action and the Anticipatory Mindset: Preventing and Mitigating the Impact of Food-related Violence on Food Security - Examples and Lessons Learned from Mali

Attachments

This document has been created to elaborate on and learn from an anticipatory approach to mitigating or preventing food insecurity developed by Insecurity Insight. Expanding on work done as part of the Conflict and Hunger series and based on the newly created concept of the “anticipatory mindset”, Insecurity Insight developed a series of anticipatory briefings that use an innovative approach to mapping foodrelated violence and its impact on food insecurity in Mali. By focusing on the impact of conflict, the mappings and accompanying recommendations enable humanitarian aid organisations to anticipate increased food insecurity caused by conflict-related events and act to mitigate it before it occurs. Based on stakeholders’ reflections on the briefings, the document reflects on the lessons learned from the briefings by positioning these lessons in the anticipatory action sector and proposing the next steps in the development of the aid sector’s use of the anticipatory mindset.
