UAE delegation to Maldives assesses humanitarian needs of tsunami victims

Male, Maldives - The UAE delegation comprising officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Red Crescent Authority (RCA) and the Abu Dhabi Development Fund and Maldivian officials discussed yesterday the humanitarian situation in the Maldives and development projects planned to provide basic services to victims of natural disasters which hit the group of Maldivian atolls in recent years. The UAE delegation which is led by Mohammed Hamad Hadid, Minister Plenipotentiary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs were briefed by Representative of the Maldivian Foreign Ministry

Dr. Hussain Niaz and officials from the Maldivian National Disaster Monitoring on current reconstruction efforts and projects aimed at rehabilitating infrastructure Maldivian atolls affected by Tsunami and catering for needs of the affected population.

Blueprints of planned housing projects targeting locals who have been rendered homeless by natural disasters were presented by Maldivian officials to the UAE delegation which comprises Abdullah Mohammed Al Mahmoud, Director of Projects at the RCA and Mohammed Saif Al Suweidi, Director of Operations at the Abu Dhabi Development Fund.

The visit, which builds on a long-standing UAE tradition to ameliorate the suffering of those inflicted by natural disasters and offer hope in form of educational, health and developmental projects, is pursuant to the directives of President H.H Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan to reach out to the needy in the troubled hotspots around the world.
