The President has inquired about the wellbeing of the people of South Huvadhu Atoll and Addu Atoll, as tidal surges continued to cause extensive flooding on the islands.
The President called the South Huvadhu Atoll Chief, Mr. Ali Shareef Mohamed and Addu Atoll Chief, Mr. Hussain Saeed Mohamed last night, and inquired about the conditions of the people and the actions being taken following the catastrophe. He also sought information about the work being done to evacuate the people in the affected areas to safer places. Further, the President assured the people of both Atolls that the National Disaster Management Centre and other concerned Government authorities were implementing the required actions and that the Government would extend all possible assistance at this time of need.
The President last night also called the Senior Island Chief of South Huvadhu Atoll Fares Maathodaa, Mr. Mohamed Latheef, to inquire about the wellbeing of the residents of the island, on hearing about the tidal waves that hit the island late last night.
