The President has inquired about the wellbeing of the people of all islands, as tidal waves continue to flood the country. The tidal waves have been affecting various parts of the country since the 15th of this month.
The President called some Atoll Chiefs and the concerned authorities to inquire about the conditions of the people and the actions being taken to alleviate the distress.
The President sent envoys to the worst-affected areas in Addu Atoll and Huvadhu Atoll. Sea water was pumped out where needed, while food and water were provided to the needy and some people were evacuated to safer areas. National Disaster Management Centre is carrying out an assessment and supporting the relief efforts.
