Malaysian Red Crescent Prepares for Floods in Johore

Having experienced major floods 2006 and 2007 in Johore, the Malaysian Red Crescent (MRC) has started early its preparations to face further severe floods in the southern region of the peninsular, by setting its 24 hours Operations Centre at MRC Headquarters and also enquiring MRC volunteers throughout the state.

All MRC Branches have been directed to identify and standby their volunteers to be mobilized immediately to the flood-affected areas. At the moment two MRC staff from Headquarters and 1 boat is already on standby in Segamat to help the MRC Johore Branch in evacuating flood victims.

MRC is also setting up its Radio Communications Unit at its Headquarters and 1 unit to be stationed in Johore as to get the latest info from the ground. The unit is manned by the MRC radio communications volunteers.

The MRC currently is appealing from the public for donations of cash, goods and hygiene kits for flood victims.

Donations via cheque should be made payable to "Malaysian Red Crescent Society" or by cash through "Malaysian Red Crescent Society" account no - 514422107228 (MAYBANK) and make sure you receive the receipt by fax your bank slip to 03-42533191 or email to together with your name and address.

Donations to MRC are entitled for Tax-Exemption.
