Malaysia, Thailand - Severe weather, update (AHA Centre, NOAA-CPC) (ECHO Daily Flash of 29 November 2024)

  • The Northeast Monsoon (MTL), continues to bring very heavy rainfall between Peninsular Malaysia and southern Thailand, causing floods and flash floods that resulted in casualties and damage.
  • In Malaysia, the ASEAN Coordinating Centre for Humanitarian Assistance (AHA Centre) reports four fatalities, and 52,360 displaced people in 385 evacuation centres. The hit states are Johor, Kedah, Kelantan, Perak, Perlis, Sarawak, and Terengganu and most of the displaced people are located in Kelantan and Terengganu.
  • In Thailand, a total of 136,219 households have been affected in Satun, Surat Thani, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Songkhla, Pattani, Narathiwat, and Yala provinces.
  • National authorities of both countries are providing help for those affected.
  • For the next 48 hours, heavy to very heavy rainfall is still forecast over the impacted areas of southern Thailand and Peninsular Malaysia.
