Malaysia - Severe weather (IFRC, MET Malaysia) (ECHO Daily Flash of 28 November 2024)

  • Since early November, Malaysia has been experiencing heavy rainfall and consequent floods brought by the Northeast Monsoon (MTL) leading to casualties and damage.
  • According to the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), as of 28 November, one person died in Kelantan, a total of 31,798 individuals have been affected across the states of Kelantan, Terengganu, Kedah, Perlis, Johor, and Perak (Peninsular Malaysia). Moreover, 296 temporary evacuation centres have been established to accommodate those impacted.
  • For the next 24 hours, moderate to heavy rainfall is expected across most of Malaysia, affecting both the peninsula (particularly the north-eastern states) and Borneo.
