Malaysia - Landslides and flash floods, update (IFRC, ADINet, NOAA-CPC) (ECHO Daily Flash of 19 September 2025)

  • Heavy rainfall has been affecting northern Borneo Island, in eastern Malaysia, since 13 September, causing flash floods and landslides, which resulted in fatalities and damage.
  • As of 19 September, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) and the ASEAN Disaster Information Network (ADINet)report 13 fatalities and a total of 3,134 displaced people across at least 24 evacuation centres in the Sabah state, where more than 127 villages have been affected. At least 38 schools have been flooded, causing school disruptions.
  • Over the next 48 hours, more rainfall, with isolated heavy rainfall, is forecast over Sabah state.
