Malaysia - Floods, update (ADINet, media, MET Malaysia) (ECHO Daily Flash of 9 January 2026)

  • Since late December 2025, insular Malaysia (comprising the states of Sabah, Sarawak, and Selangor) has been experiencing severe flooding caused by persistent heavy rainfall, resulting in displacement and damage.
  • According to the ASEAN Disaster Information Network (ADINet), as of 8 January, 1 224 people are displaced to nine evacuation centres in the cities of Beufort and Tenom, Sabah.
  • Over the next 24 hours, moderate to heavy rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms, will continue across Malaysia, particularly across the flood-affected regions in Borneo.
