This Weekly Bulletin focuses on public health emergencies occurring in the WHO African region. This week’s articles cover:
- Cholera in Malawi
- Mpox in Ghana
For each of these events, a brief description, followed by public health measures implemented and an interpretation of the situation, is provided.
A table is provided at the end of the bulletin with information on all new and ongoing public health events currently being monitored in the region, as well as recent events that have been controlled and closed.
- Ghana has recently experienced a resurgence of Mpox cases, with the first case reported in September 2024 and a steady increase in confirmed infections over the following weeks. Most cases involved young adult males, with some having travel or business linkages to mining and high-risk countries. The Ministry of Health remains vigilant, primarily due to the risk of cross-border transmission and the recurrence of Mpox since the previous outbreak in 2022.
