Highlights
In 2023, Malawi dealt with multiple shocks, including a cholera outbreak with 59,125 cases and 1,770 deaths. Floods affected 2.3 million people, displacing 659,278 people, and acute food insecurity left 4.4 million people unable to meet their food requirements.
34,200 Children and adults, representing 56 percent of the 59,125 cases registered, accessed treatment for Cholera through supplies provided by UNICEF.
UNICEF support has aided 728,527 learners affected by Tropical Cyclone Freddy in returning to school and accessing safe and quality learning.
Over 3 million children under five gained access to nutrition screening, out of which 1.6 per cent identified with acute malnutrition and were referred to the nearest health facilities.
99 (100%) unaccompanied and separated children due to Cyclone Freddy are united with their families.
2.8 million people gained access to safe water through UNICEF-supported interventions.
