UNICEF Malawi Humanitarian Situation Report - Flood Situation Report: (31 August 2019)



  • While families affected by the floods have now returned home or relocated to safer areas, there is need to support the recovery and reconstruction process to avoid creating different forms of vulnerabilities. UNICEF estimates a funding requirement of US$23.95 million to support the high priority interventions identified in the National Disaster Recovery Framework.

  • With schools due to reopen in mid-September, UNICEF is supporting volunteer teachers to continue sensitizing parents and communities on the importance of education and encourage them to register their children for the upcoming school year.

  • With UNICEF support, 14,994 children (6,776 boys and 8,397 girls) participated in Children’s Corners and received Psychosocial Support Services in July and August 2019.
