Recent flooding in central and northern
Mozambique and Malawi has forced more than 400,000 people to flee their
homes for drier ground.
Mennonite Central Committee (MCC) is
committing $540,000 Cdn /$340,000 U.S. in emergency aid to Mozambique in
response to the flooding and displacement of people. The aid will be distributed
through the Christian Council of Mozambique (CCM) and one its member churches,
the United Church of Christ (UCC). A portion of the funding comes from
the Canadian Foodgrains Bank.
A smaller amount of aid, $24,000 Cdn/$15,000 U.S., is being directed to neighboring Malawi where flooding has also displaced thousands of people.
