OVERVIEW
About 944,784 people are in urgent need of WASH services due to the devastating effects of Tropical Cyclone Freddy. This situation has risen at the same time the country is fighting a severe cholera outbreak resulting into a very high demand for WASH services. More than 500,000 people are displaced. Water supply infrastructure and Sanitary facilities have been washed away. In some areas that flooded, boreholes have been submerged under water and the quality of water has been compromised. The worst affected districts are Nsanje, Chikwawa, Phalombe, Mulanje and Blantyre.
The WASH cluster partners are currently responding to the crisis through distribution of hygiene kits/WASH NFI, provision of emergency water tracking, installation of mobile latrines and bathing facilities in displacement sites. Total reached people per district are presented below:
