Highlights
· According to the Malawi Meteorological Service, heavy rains are expected all over the country in the coming days, with risk of rising water levels in the major river systems in the country and subsequent flooding in the lower Shire and along the Lakeshore areas.
· As of 2 March 2015, 60 cases of cholera have been confirmed by the Ministry of Health, with two deaths. Out of these 60 cases, 6 cases with no death were reported in Mwanza, 1 case in Dedza, a district which was not affected by floods, 3 cases in Chikwawa, while the rest of cases including two deaths have been reported in Nsanje.
· Heavy rains reported in Mwanza and Mulanje from 26 to 27 February 2015 led to secondary flooding in Chikwawa and Nsanje. These floods have displaced about 191 households in Chikwawa and killed 3 people.
· The review of the 2015 Malawi Floods Response Plan is underway. Clusters are revising their sectoral plans, with a focus on the most affected districts of Nsanje, Zomba, Phalombe, Chikwawa, Blantyre Rural and Mulanje · The United Nations Disaster Assessment and Coordination (UNDAC) Team finished its mission in Malawi, on 27 February 2015. The UN with support of Development Partners will be engaging the Standby Partnership Program and UN Volunteers to ensure that there is continued capacity for coordination at all levels.
