Malawi - Flood (NOAA-CPC, media) (ECHO Daily Flash of 09 December 2024)

  • Heavy rainfall and lightning have been affecting Malawi over the last two weeks, causing floods and severe weather-related incidents that have resulted in casualties and damage.
  • According to media reports, as of 6 December, at least 11 people died due to severe weather-related incidents, including eight people due to lightning, and 80 people have been injured. More than 48,748 people and a total of 10,833 houses have been affected, causing several displacements.
  • Over the next 24 hours, more rainfall is forecast over the whole country.
