The Minister for Development Cooperation Charles Michel has informed the Malawi authorities that Belgium is responding favourably to their request for assistance following an earthquake which occurred this weekend in that country and which led to more than 200,000 displaced people.
Shortly before Christmas, this humanitarian situation requires the shipment of tents, blankets, shelters and maize flour in order to allow the 200,000 people to find shelter and food.
The Belgian Development Cooperation sector is currently making contact with NGOs and international agencies locally in the field in order to evaluate needs and to be able to implement the assistance that Belgium will provide as quickly as possible.
