Tropical Cyclone Enawo: CBM in contact with partners as storm batters Madagascar

Assessing situation

On 7 March, Tropical Storm Enawo-17 made landfall on north-east Madagascar as a very intense tropical cyclone with maximum sustained winds of around 231 km/h (143 mph). Wind gusts in the area may have been considerably higher. Several deaths are reported and, although Enawo has weakened to a tropical storm, it is moving slowly south-west through the country, bringing heavy rains and therefore risk of flooding/landslides.

CBM and partners

CBM is currently working with partners on programmes throughout Madagascar, in various fields including education, eye health, Community-based Rehabilitation and orthopaedic surgery. We are currently communicating with these partners, assessing their situation, before deciding on potential implementation of response.
