On 3 February, tropical storm FAIDA continued westward over the southern Indian Ocean toward eastern Madagascar, with maximum sustained winds up to 74 km/h, weakening. On 4 February at 6.00 UTC its centre was located offshore approximately 135 km east of the coastal Vatomandry city, Atsinanana Region, with maximum sustained winds of 51 km/h (tropical depression).
FAIDA is forecast to make landfall over the coast of the central Atsinanana Region, between Vatomandry, and Toamasina cities on the late morning or early afternoon (UTC) of 4 February as a tropical depression. After that, it is forecast to further weakening and dissipating inland on the morning (UTC) of 5 February.
Over the next 72 hours, heavy rainfall with locally very heavy rainfall is forecast over most of Madagascar.
