Tropical cyclone FAIDA, formed on 23 January over the southern Indian Ocean, passed on 2 February close to the northern coast of the Mauritius Islands and Reunion Island, and continued moving westward over northern Madagascar.
On 3 February at 6.00 UTC, its centre is located approximately 250 km east of the eastern coast of Madagascar with maximum sustained winds of 65 km/h (tropical storm).
FAIDA is forecast to continue westward strengthening. It is expected to make landfall over northern Madagascar on 4 February, affecting particularly the Analamanga, Alaotra Mangoro, Analanjirofo, Atsinanana and Sofia regions.
On 3-4 February, heavy rainfall and strong winds are expected over the province of Toamasina.
