This report is based on information provided by the Office of the United Nations Resident Coordinator in Madagascar.

Situation

1. The Meteorological Department of Madagascar has indicated that heavy rains have stopped and the water level is progressively decreasing.

2. As of today, the National Relief Council reports the following figures on the impact of floods on people and infrastructure:

Needs

3. The authorities have identified the following priority needs for an estimated value of approx. USD 1.5 million.

  • Shelters
  • Water purification
  • Sanitation equipment
  • Rehabilitation of infrastructure
  • Medicines
  • Blankets and clothing
  • Food items
  • Kitchen sets
  • Transport and Logistics
  • Miscellaneous


National Response

4. The Office of the United Nations Resident Coordinator in Madagascar reports that the Government has supplied 10 tonnes of rice, 120 packs of high proteine biscuits, 100 blankets, 40 tents and 600 jerry cans (5 liters each) to the affected areas.

International Response

5. UNICEF provided 1,000 mosquito nets and 2,000 bottles of water purifier.

6. The private sector donated 2,250 blankets, 5,000 plates, 2,000 buckets (15L) 1,800 jerry cans (10L), 2,400 food boxes.

7. OCHA is in close contact with the Office of the UN Resident Coordinator in Madagascar and will revert with further information, as it becomes available.
