Heavy rainfall has been affecting central Madagascar, in particular the Antananarivo city area, since 15 February, causing flooding and river overflow that has resulted in affected populations and damage.
The National Risk and Disaster Management Programme of Madagascar (BNGRC) and media reports, as of 16 February, a total of 2,936 displaced people in five evacuation centres, 3,688 that have been affected, and 720 houses that have been damaged by the rising waters of the Sisaony river.
Over the next 48 hours, more rainfall is still forecast over northern and western Madagascar. A red warning for heavy rain has been issued for central-eastern Madagascar.
