Madagascar - Floods (BNGRC, MeteoMadagascar, CatNat) (ECHO Daily Flash of 18 February 2025)

  • Heavy rainfall has been affecting central Madagascar, in particular the Antananarivo city area, since 15 February, causing flooding and river overflow that has resulted in affected populations and damage.
  • The National Risk and Disaster Management Programme of Madagascar (BNGRC) and media reports, as of 16 February, a total of 2,936 displaced people in five evacuation centres, 3,688 that have been affected, and 720 houses that have been damaged by the rising waters of the Sisaony river.
  • Over the next 48 hours, more rainfall is still forecast over northern and western Madagascar. A red warning for heavy rain has been issued for central-eastern Madagascar.
